The 2013 Pinot Noir La Colina Vineyard was picked on October 2 and aged for 24 months in 27% new French oak, with a racking in May before blending and a second in August. It has an attractive bouquet with brambly red fruit, ferrous notes, undergrowth and a touch of orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, edgy red berry fruit laced with orange rind and a touch of spice; there is commendable density towards the finish, even if it is missing the precision of some of its peers.

The 2012 Pinot Noir La Colina Vineyard comes from a vineyard populated by Pommard and 114 clones planted in 1999 on rich Jory soil, aged for 16 months in 19% new French barrels. There is a little more opulence on the nose compared to Torii Mors' other 2012 cuvées, with small black cherries, bilberry and hints of violet coming through. The palate follows through with plush, rounded tannin that create a smooth and sensual texture. There is (again) impressive purity here with just a pinch of cracked black pepper lending required edginess on the finish. I would actually give this 12 months in bottle just to settle down a little.

The 2009 Pinot Noir La Colina Vineyard is a pretty offering with plenty of spicy red fruit aromas and flavors, spice notes, and a bit of structure. Silky textured with moderate length, it will be at its best from 2012 to 2019. Torii Mor was founded in 1993 by Dr. Donald and Margie Olson. The 2008 Pinot Noir La Colina Vineyard is medium crimson-colored with a lovely perfume of violets, spice box, earth notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. On the palate it displays layers of savory black fruits, plenty of spice, and a suave personality. There is enough fine-grained tannin to permit several more years of bottle aging and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It will provide pleasurable drinking from 2013 to 2023.
