The 2020 Almirez comes from 41.7 hectares of vines ranging between 15 and 65 years of age. It fermented for 20 days, followed by malolactic in barrel and 14 months in French oak barrels, 30% of them new. The wine is quite approachable and has finesse; it's fine-boned, more fluid and refined than other years. The rains in August resulted in larger grapes with more juice, and the wine is quite approachable even at this young age. It's expressive, clean and powerful (the place is like that) and with 14.81% alcohol that goes unnoticed. It has abundant, fine-grained tannins and some creaminess and spiciness from the time in barrel, developing some mintiness with time in the glass; later, there's more licorice and even aniseed and fennel aromas. 88,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2022.

Delivers dense tannins that form a firm frame, which is wrapped in a plush range of sappy blackberry and boysenberry fruit, Mediterranean scrub, mocha and orange peel flavors. Well-spiced and fresh, though tightly meshed now. Decant or give this some short-term cellaring. The 2019 Almirez was produced with grapes from their 41.7 hectares of vines that are 15 to 65 years old. The destemmed grapes were foot trodden and fermented with yeasts selected from their own vineyards for 18 days. Malolactic was in barrel, and the wine matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, 30% of them new and the rest second use. Despite the new oak, the wine is very fruit-driven and does not come through as oaky. It's floral, spicy and juicy, ripe without excess and with a velvety mouthfeel. This is approachable from early on, and even now, it has the silky tannins from 2019. It's less tannic than other vintages and has very good balance. There is more depth here, provided by the older vines, and there's more nuance too. 95,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021.

A firm structure supports a plush texture in this focused red. It offers cherry, raspberry and currant flavors, brightened by citrusy acidity. Tight now, but has depth and balance. Drink now through 2028. 6,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.??–TM??Region: Spain / Toro Select to Add
