The 2020 Riesling Trocken Gelblack comes in with stunning 13% alcohol and opens with a clear and pretty intense and warm yet elegant bouquet of ripe fruits intertwined with some crystalline notes. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate yet also fresh and piquant, this is more than an easy aperitif but less than a rich and complex Schloss Johannisberger. It is somewhere in between and comes across with fresh and vivacious acidity, which might be a bit too nervy for the solemn texture. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in July 2021.

The 2019 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Trocken Gelblack is a full-bodied, pretty rich and ripe dry Riesling with racy acidity and good grip on the finish. It is pretty loud this year and less refined than I remember from previous vintages. Tasted in June 2020.

The second bottling (AP no. 2 19) of the 2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Trocken Gelblack is clear, fresh and spicy on the well-concentrated and coolish-flinty nose. Lush and round on the palate, this is a dry, medium-bodied and well-structured Riesling with good, intense freshness and a nicely phenolic finish. Tasted in August 2019.

The 2017 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Trocken Gelblack is very clear but intense and characterful, with white, green and yellow-fleshed fruit aromas intermixed with flinty quartzite notes and a good level of ripeness. The palate is lush, clear and quite intense for an estate wine, with good structure but also finesse and elegance. It has round, lush fruit that provides charm but also the aristocratic mineral finesse of the Johannisberger. A gorgeous estate Riesling.

The dry 2016 Rheingau Riesling Schloss Johannisberger "Gelblack" –?Trocken – offers aromatic yet not very precise fruit. It's a lush and fruity Riesling with a certain power, good acidity and mineral grip, but the performance remains rather simple. Bottled with 12.5% alcohol plus 7.7 grams of residual sugar.
