The 2002 Barbera d’Asti San Si is astonishing in the context of its vintage, one which was particularly trying for Barbera. While other producers were frantically trying to control the rot, Maggiorino and Mario Scagliola were working with fruit of very good ripeness, sweet, jammy, and chocolatey, polished, warm, and quite sustained in its volume and flow.
