The 2010 Touriga Nacional & Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva was oak aged for 12 months. Laced with far too much sweet oak at this moment, this struggles to surmount it, but there are signs it might with a year or so of cellaring. The wine is otherwise lovely, beautifully constructed, bright and elegant in the mid-palate with some tannic pop and an otherwise graceful demeanor. If this can absorb some of that oak, it should be a winner. It is persistent and fresh. There were 89,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2020. These particular bottles are not imported. The 2008 TOURIGA NACIONAL / CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVA is laced with sweet oaky notes up front and hints of kirsch on the nose, which frankly detract from the whole, making it seem a bit simple and one dimensional, particularly at the outset. In other respects, it is beautifully constructed, with ripe tannins and an elegant demeanor. It is hard to find the fruit under the oaky overlay, though. Perhaps with time the oak will integrate a bit better, and it did get a bit better with air, but never quite enough. If you don’t mind the oak, this is a lovely wine. Drink now-2018. The 2007 TOURIGA NACIONAL / CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVA is elegant in the mid-palate and bright, with grip from ripe tannins on the finish. Spicy and with an overlay of oak, it is quite tasty, but the oak is well too prominent at the moment. As the fruit starts to show itself, it develops aggressive and intense flavors, laced with ripe rhubarb. This young wine needs to settle down a bit, when it will have a chance to show its stuff. It is well priced and delivers some bang for the buck. I confess that I liked its structure more than its flavor profile. Your mileage may differ. Drink 2011-2019. Gripping on the finish, this tightly wound young wine spent 12 months in French oak. The texture is oak-softened, but the palate shows ripe and fresh fruit and there are attractive red and black berry notes on the nose. The ripe tannins provide support, there is grip on the finish, and the wine overall has an elegant feel. It is very pleasing, and reasonably priced. The Touriga Nacional seems to be dominating the wine at the moment, delivering some of those sweet ‘n’ sour plum notes on the juicy finish. It does eventually flatten out with a couple of hours of air, but it is very nice drinking in the meanwhile.
