This is an accessible Barolo that delivers plenty of varietal and territorial typicity without breaking the bank. With 37,855 bottles released, the Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2017 Barolo Ludo draws its fruit from the younger vines across various vineyards, including Cannubi, Terlo and Bussia. The wine promises a fresh and snappy style, with wild fruit, tarry resin, blue flower and crushed limestone. Those pretty and faithfully characteristic Nebbiolo tones are drawn out nicely by the medium-rich texture of the wine.

The 2015 Barolo Ludo is the most accessible offering in the Poderi Luigi Einaudi portfolio, and this is absolutely intentional. Fruit is sourced from all the estate's major vineyard sites (the youngest vines), including Cannubi, Terlo and Bussia. The so-called Terrazza parcel that they farm in Cannubi was put into this wine instead of the single-vineyard expression. Ludo has a shorter maceration than the other wines (at 18 to 20 days). This vintage is healthy, dark and exuberant with a full and generous set of aromas that span from dark fruit to cola and balsam herb. Mint and eucalyptus also appear. By the way, this wine comes with some really cool cardboard packaging. The bottle is hidden in what looks like children's building blocks.

This is a new wine that has never previously been produced. It represents a blend of Nebbiolo from Terlo (in Barolo) and Bussia (in Monforte d'Alba) sites. The 2014 Barolo Ludo does a very nice job in a difficult vintage. This is a bright and shapely Barolo with plenty of fruit, spice and licorice spread over a mid-weight mouthfeel and moderate finish. The wine plays its best cards in terms of elegance and finesse. The finish is long and silky, showing delicate touches of fruit and spice along the way. Some 11,000 bottles were produced.
