Closed in a screw cap bottle, the Paolo Scavino 2020 Langhe Sorriso is a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon with some Viognier. This is a luminous and bright white wine that delivers the goods in terms of fruit intensity, freshness and crisp minerality. Passion fruit, grapefruit and summer peach rise cheerfully from the glass.

A blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and a smaller part Viognier, the Paolo Scavino 2018 Langhe Sorriso offers abundant tropical and orchard fruits, with Meyer lemon and honeydew melon. I caught a glimpse of banana or pineapple that may come from the yeast and fermentation. The wine is crisp and lean, promising to be a good partner to summer appetizers. Salty or mineral end notes could work well with fried finger foods.

Here's a bright and refreshing white blend made with 40% Chardonnay, 40% Sauvignon and 20% Viognier. The 2016 Langhe Sorriso makes good use of the physical characteristics offered by each variety. It reveals some of the creamy structure of Chardonnay and much of the aromatic potency that you would associate with Sauvignon Blanc. But the Viognier is the most interesting part of the blend for sure. It gives the wine a thicker luster or sheen that feels silky and unctuous on the finish.
