Cherries, plums, mixed berries, herbs and baking spices on the nose follow through to a medium to full body. Fine, firm tannins with crisp acidity at the center. Structured and well-balanced with a bright core of juicy berries on the mid-palate, and a fresh and salivating finish with excellent length. Drink or hold.

The Negretti 2018 Barolo Mirau shows great intensity and nice balance. The wine is medium dark in color with big aromas of blackberry, ripe cherry and gardening soil. The Mirau offers up 15% alcohol, which is a lot to take in. Fruit comes from 45-year-old vines planted in cool soils with calcareous marl at 270 meters in elevation. The wine is aged in Swiss oak, which is a point of curiosity. Production is 9,000 bottles.

This wine comes from an organically farmed vineyard site in La Morra that is not part of the official MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) map. The Negretti 2017 Barolo Mirau opens to aromas of crushed flower, dried rose and anise. Those floral aromas establish an accessible and open-knit approach that is in line with other wines from this hot and dry vintage. Those delicate aromas cede to crushed mineral and iron ore. This wine maintains a delicate and carefully measured personality with a little more structural and tannic definition. Annual production for this wine is anywhere between 8,000 to 10,000 bottles.

There's a bright core of cherry in this red, surrounded by black tea, tar and a firm structure. Just a touch dry in the overall balance. Best from 2014 through 2020. 300 cases made, 50 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barolo Select to Add
