The 2011 Perles Blancques is a golden-colored sparkling Cava produced with a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a nose of freshly-baked bread and brioche with high (citric) acidity and flavors of toasted cereals and yeasts, and a medium-bodied palate with great weight, and persistence, ending quite dry. This is a superb Cava. Drink now-2016. Some of the traditional Cava houses age their liqueur d’expedition in barrels, which give the wines a smoky, nutty, barrel-fermented feeling to them, as seems to be the case with the Cavas I tasted from Naveran. The 2009 Perles Blancques is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay that has a small percentage fermented in French oak and sees a minimum of 24 months lees aging. It has a very fruit-driven bouquet with hints of tropical fruit, orange blossom and fresh mango that is well-defined. The 2008 Perles Blanques is made up of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay aged on its lees for 24 months. White fruits and minerals inform the nose of this savory, relatively dry Cava. A bit one-dimensional on the palate but with good volume and length, it will drink well over the next 1-2 years. Caves Naveran was established in 1985. The 2007 Perles Blanques Naveran is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay with 10% of the wine aged in oak. Light gold-colored with a slight hint of the oak aging, it reveals aromas of mineral, melon , and white peach. With good depth and a vinous character on the palate, it is nicely balanced, leading into a refreshing finish. Drink it over the next 3 years.
