This 2020 Velvet Glove Shiraz is an even more high-octane rendition of this wine than the warm 2019 that preceded it. Here, there is vitality in the fruit, and the tannins express superior, ductile malleability. This is structured, firm, opulent—nay, heady, sybaritic and deeply corporeal—and long. This is a massive wine, but it lives up to its name in every way. To be released in November 2022.

I sat down with Sarah in McLaren Vale at the end of June 2022, and we spoke about the philosophy of this wine particularly—something I was determined to understand. The wine has always fulfilled its reputation of velvet fruit and plump mouth-filling flavor, and that is continued here in the 2019 Velvet Glove Shiraz. The philosophy dictates that there must be 100% flavor saturation—right to the back of the palate—and there's no escaping the tsunami of fruit that washes over the tongue. If you want mouth staining, this is it. 16% alcohol.

Offers impressive purity, concentration and focus, with a core of ripe, round and very generous blackberry and cherry flavors, set on a thick and plush frame.
