An epic wine, the 2018 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon has the addition of 1% Petit Verdot. Velvety, complex aromas sashay out of the glass with boisterous black fruits taunting the nose with seductive red and purple flowers, elegant baking spices and a delightful mineral essence. Full-bodied, the Cabernet offers an impeccable mouth filled with lively mineral tension, dusty plums and silky-smooth tannins, which will remain food-friendly for more than two decades. The wine somersaults to an elongated and long-lingering finish. The wine rested for 21 months in French barrels. 4,200 bottles were made. Bravo, this is stunning—I can’t put my glass down.

Opening with a gorgeous and dusty nose, the 2017 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby in color at the core, with a soft purple edge. Aromas of dusty black fruit, blackberry, currant, cassis, baked earth and elegant brown baking spices with vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg waft out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is open, expressive and generous, unpacking complexity and fortitude with a broad structure, energizing acidity and lifting tannins with a dusty and oaky frame. Ending with a long and evolving finish, the wine offers good mineral tension and ripe black fruit tones. This was made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Quintessence and Klipsun vineyards and aged for 21 months in all French oak. Only 5040 bottles were filled.

The generously structured 2016 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose that is full of pure, spiced black fruit, with seductive oak tones and purple flower aromas. The full-bodied wine has a concentrated and dense fruit expression with crème de cassis and blackberry jus, paired with beautiful mocha tones and gravel on the palate. The finish is long, offering parting flavors that are spicy yet elegant and will last for years to come. Only 380 cases made.

The 2015 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon opens in the glass with aromas of cassis, burning embers, plum preserve and dried herbs. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and ripe, with a generous core of juicy fruit and fine-grained structuring tannins. It's one of the more complete wines in the range and one of the most concentrated and characterful, but it's let down by a touch of back end heat. Let's see how it develops, but I preferred the Old Vines.

The flagship cuvee is the 2014 Lonely Heart Cabernet Sauvignon, and it's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Mountain AVA. It's easily the richness, most concentrated, textured and structured in the lineup and offers fabulous notes of black and blue fruits, graphite, hints of tobacco and damp earth. With sensational purity, lots of tannin (they're ripe as opposed to coarse and astringent), and a great finish. It's going to have two decades or more of longevity.
