A core of bright cherry and strawberry fruit lurks under the sweet spice and incense aromas and flavors. Silky and firm at once, with a lingering aftertaste of cherry and berry allied to dusty tannins. The 2013 Volnay Vieilles Vignes has a slightly subdued, tertiary bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannins and missing a little of flesh on the dry finish. This is a bit of a miss for me, one of few from Monsieur Potel, but this was a difficult vintage in this village.
