The 2020 Volnay Village unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, warm spices, peonies and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, lively and precise, with a vibrant core of fruit and chalky tannins that assert themselves on the finish, it will merit a bit of bottle age.

For the vintage, this is a rich wine, enjoying the Volnay roundness and velvet textures. The fruit is of sweet raspberries with lively acidity that cuts an edge in this cushioned wine. Age for a few months, but it is showing well now. ——R.V.(9/1/2011)—— 88

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Volnay offers aromas reminiscent of roses, violets, and cherries. It is medium-bodied, rich, and has an appealingly supple, seamless finish. Similar in color to the 1995 Cote De Beaune and possessing tightly-wound red and dark berry aromatics, the Volnay is more structured and unyielding. Cassis, blackberries and minerals are found in its medium-bodied, slightly craggy-textured character. Anticipated maturity: 1998-2002.
