The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is impressive, exhibiting aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, rose petals, licorice and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's rich and multidimensional, with a lively spine of acidity and an abundance of ripe, powdery tannin.

The 2016 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru was reduced from three to two barrels this year (the vines are located on Terres Blanches next to Christophe Roumier’s). It has an extremely pure bouquet with black cherries, kirsch, blood orange and minerals. It has a wonderful, shimmering bouquet with fine tannin, a gentle crescendo here with a nicely structured finish and superb mineralité. Wonderful.

The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru demonstrated impressive intensity on the engaging nose: blackberry, briary, wilted rose petal and mineral, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe juicy red berry fruit, very structured and cohesive with an almost Musigny-like finish. There is clearly great density here, a long-term Bonnes-Mares with a persistent, spicy finish that will leave you racing back for another sip.

The 2014 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, from the terre blanche soils in the vineyard, has a sensual, feminine, comely bouquet with beautifully defined red cherries and strawberry fruit that unfurl in the glass. This is like coming face-to-face with a femme fatale, dressed to seduce. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly edgy tannin, with impressive density and a relatively linear but focused finish. There are just two barrels produced and both full of downright sexy Bonnes-Mares.

The 2013 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, from the Chambolle side, has a beautiful bouquet that is pure and sensual: black cherry and red plum, hints of blueberry emerging with aeration. The palate is sleek and silky on the entry with very good depth of fruit, a little sharpness originating from the citric acidity and a dash of spice on the finish. This will need 5 to 7 years in bottle before broaching with a waiter's friend.
