The powerful and elegant 2014 Terra d'Uro Selección shows great freshness and fine-grained tannins, power and concentration with very good balance. A great showing for this bottling from an extremely old vineyard. 26,000 bottles were filled in March 2017.

The 2012 Terra d’Uro Selección is produced with grapes from their 13.7-hectare ancient ungrafted El Romeral vineyard, located at 720 meters altitude. It fermented at slow temperature, underwent malolactic in barrel and had an élevage in French barriques (30% of them new) for 20 months. Compared with the other wines, I felt the dry and warm growing season that resulted in a riper, more powerful wine with a mixture of black fruit and spicy oak, but without excess. In fact, in 2012 they didn't produce the top of the range Uro, and all the best fruit was used for this. There are more tannins here, some austerity and a chalky sensation that calls for food. Ideal for a winter stew. Very good! 30,000 bottles produced and bottled in two lots.

This polished red delivers focused flavors in a supple texture. Black cherry, mineral, wild herb and light vanilla notes mingle in a balanced, moderate structure. Reserved, but graceful and long. Drink now through 2023. 4,000 cases made.??–TM??Region: Spain / Toro Select to Add

Produced with grapes from the ancient Vi?a El Romeral, the 2011 Terra d’Uro Seleccion was raised in new French oak for 20 months. There is a strong note of shoe polish and licorice, and it is very balsamic with echoes of peat and graphite, in a Douro way, with a core of ripe black fruit without excess. You wouldn't say the wine has seen new oak, as the spicy and smoky aromas are well into the background. The palate is medium to full-bodied with polished tannins and a velvety texture, quite balanced and sleek. It could do with a little more tension, though. 30,000 bottles.

The 2010 Seleccion is the wine produced with the Tinta de Toro grapes from a 144-year-old vineyard, Finca El Romeral, at 750 meters altitude in Villafranca de Duero. The wine aged for 20 months in French oak and is still marked by its elevage with lactic and sweet spice notes and a core of ripe black fruit that develops honeyed and floral tones with time in the glass. The palate is medium to full-bodied and the tannins are round and glossy, with good tension and acidity despite feeling a tad warmer and riper. A Toro to follow. Drink 2015-2019. The aptly called Terra d’Uro, “land of the bull,” is a joint venture between a restaurateur from Valladolid, Oscar Garrote (Vino Tinto), and winemaker Cristiano van Zeller from Douro in Portugal. They work their head-pruned, ungrafted Tinta de Toro vineyards organically, some of them extremely old, over 140 years of age.
