Another gorgeous wine, the 2010 Roero positively bristles with energy and pure class. Sweet red berries, rose petals and minerals are some of the many notes that are woven together in this pointed, focused wine. The 2010 amply demonstrates the potential of Nebbiolo here. This is yet another great showing. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. Year after year, Almondo is one of the very finest producers in Roero, a part of Piedmont where consistency is hard to come by. The 2008 Roero is a gorgeous wine redolent of sweet red cherries, flowers and spices. There is plenty of Nebbiolo typicity in this mid-weight, highly articulate wine. There is no shortage of class and elegance here. Still, I would choose to drink this relatively young. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Once again, Almondo has turned out a fabulous set of wines. The 2007 Roero is all class and elegance. A core of ripe, expressive red berries melds into hard candy, roses and sweet spices as this expansive, generous wine opens up in the glass. There is an exotic quality to the fruit I find irresistible, while the heat of the vintage has given the wine an extra dimension of plumpness that contributes to the wine’s terrific overall sense of harmony. The finish is round and utterly harmonious. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017. Almondo is an excellent source for varietally true, expressive wines from Roero.
