Notes of ripe cherries, dried lavender, lilac and nut shell with crushed stone undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with ripe and fine-grained tannins that are well-integrated into the wine. Ripe and solid fruit core on the center palate with a long finish. Drink from 2026.

The 2016 Barolo Bussia offers a dark and savory bouquet with aromas of black currant and cassis with tar, smoke and licorice. There is a lot of dark spice that adds contouring and definition to the concentrated fruit found at the heart of this wine. The tannins are a bit too sharp, dense and astringent, and I'm not confident that they will ever fully integrate. Give the wine ample aging time nonetheless.

The 2015 Barolo Bussia is an austere, dark and smoky expression with light touches of spice and grilled herb that lift gently from the bouquet. From the 2015 vintage, which proved steadily sunny and warm throughout the entire summer season, this wine has consequently developed a pleasantly thick textural fiber that is looser and richer in this vintage. The wine boasts an immediate, fruit-forward approach that gives this bottle a medium to long-term drinking window.

The 2006 Barolo Bussia is another mid-weight, gracious wine. Raspberries, crushed flowers, spices and minerals emerge from this delicate, feminine Barolo. This doesn’t show a lot of the qualities I tend to associate with the Baroli of Monforte and Bussia in particular, yet it nevertheless impresses for its balance and sense of poise. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Fratelli Giacosa has been a somewhat inconsistent producer over the years; the best of these wines prove the estate is capable of doing excellent work.
