The 2020 Salia has a slightly different blend, 60% Syrah, 25% Bobal, 10% Touriga Nacional and 5% Garnacha, with a little bit more ripeness (13.5% alcohol) and more acidity and freshness. It fermented with 40% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and had 15 days of maceration. It matured in 300-liter French oak barrels for 10 months. It comes through as more nuanced and complete, very clean, with the 2020 Mediterranean profile. The wine is more expressive of the varieties, especially the Syrah. This is juicy and chewy, with fine tannins and very good balance. This has to be the finest Salia to date. 13,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021.

The village red from Leda?a 2019 Salia is a blend of their Syrah planted in 1998 in the zone of Casablanca (60%), old-vine Bobal (30%) and Touriga Nacional (10%) also from their own vineyards. It fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in 300-liter French oak barrels for 10 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and mellow acidity, but what marks the wine is a strong aroma of tempera paint, fountain pen ink, licorice and leather reminiscent of some wines from the Rh?ne. There are abundant, grainy tannins with some earthiness and a rustic touch. I'm sure some people will love this, but I don't. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2020.

The 2015 Salia is a blend of a majority of Syrah with 25% Garnacha Tintorera and 8% Touriga Nacional from young vines fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in 300-liter oak barrels for one year. It has bright red fruit, with contained ripeness, polished tannins and clean and focused flavors. This could very well be the finest Salia. It's approachable now. 14,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2016.

The 2012 Salia has always been a Syrah-based blend from their lighter, clay-rich plots; since 2006, they have also given Garnacha Tintorera or Alicante Bouschet—a grape that has a long history in the region—a leading role in this blend. In 2012, the blend is something like 43% Syrah, 42% Garnacha Tintorera, 8% Touriga Nacional and 7% Garnacha. It fermented in open top vats with indigenous yeasts and was transferred to barrel immediately after fermentation finished for malolactic and ten months élevage. This is quite marked by the Garnacha Tintorera, which provides for a wild profile, with some rustic notes that reminded me of tree bark, licorice and leather, with a core of black fruit. It combines power with balance, a dusty texture and a dry finish, with refreshing acidity. It should develop more aromatic complexity, as it still shows pretty closed. 14,580 bottles produced.

Savory notes of wood smoke, black olive and licorice frame ripe plum and blackberry fruit in this generous red. Light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity structure the plush texture.
