The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière was lucky enough to escape the frost this vintage. It has a focused, cold stone, flinty bouquet that gains intensity in the glass although never gets too carried away. The palate is well balanced with notes of tangerine, blood orange and a hints of spice. It is a little abrupt on the finish, the aftertaste disappearing a little rapidly, but before that this is a well-crafted Les Truffières to be enjoyed over the next decade.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière from Sophie Morey has a refined nose with well integrated oak, a little fuller than its peers with a slight tropical edge that emerges with time in the glass. The palate is crisp on the entry with a pleasant twist of sour lemon that leads to a well-balanced, edgy finish with just a dab of shaved ginger. This is well crafted and should age well over the next four to five years.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière 2011 seems subdued and slightly muffled on the nose – a touch of reduction here smothering the delineation and poise. The palate is chewy on the entry with a slight bitterness. This feels rather disjointed and the finish rather dry and austere.

Another impressive wine, the 2010 Puligny-Montrachet La Truffiere is polished and centered from start to finish. There is a level of precision in the Truffiere that is less evident in the Chassagne premier crus. The richness and incisive minerality of the vintage emerges fully on the finish. Ultimately the Truffiere is all about texture. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Vincent Morey began harvesting on September 17th. All of the 2010s were bottled before the 2011 harvest. Morey told me he seeks to maintain freshness in his wines, and therefore sees nothing to gain from longer elevage. I also tasted a handful of highly attractive 2011s from barrel. The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet La Truffiere is rich, soft and seamless. Deceptively medium in body, the wine possesses striking depth in a textured, layered style. The red clay gives the wine its considerable volume and creaminess. Anticipated maturity: 2013+. Vincent Morey began harvesting his 2009s on September 10. The wines saw batonnage every two weeks. The malos were very fast, and were completed by January. The wines wre subsequently racked to steel and bottled in August 2010. I tasted all of the 2010s from barrel.
