Faiveley Nuits St Georges la Vigneronde

There are a half-dozen selections from the village of Nuits St.-Georges, all of which are at least excellent, some outstanding. The Nuits St.-Georges-La Vigneronde is similar in style to the Nuits St. Georges-Aux Chaignots, but even more opulent, sweeter, and expansive on the palate, with slightly greater depth. It is as seductive a young Nuits St.-Georges as one is likely to find. The huge black-cherry and black-raspberry fruit aromas are kissed gently by sweet, smoky new oak. The finish is all glycerin, alcohol, and jammy, concentrated fruit. A marvelous example of this vineyard, the 1990 La Vigneronde should continue to drink well for the next decade.Faiveley believes the 1990s are the finest wines the firm has produced in several decades. Consumers will be happy to know that not only is there a bevy of top wines, but many of them are priced below what Faiveley the last two vintages. The international recession has hit Burgundy as hard as Bordeaux, so it is not surprising to see many producers cut prices by as much as 40% in order to sell their wines.
