Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, vine smoke and spices, the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'écu Monopole is medium-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a cool core of fruit and melting tannins. It will offer a broad drinking window in its supple, delicate style.

Aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, raw cocoa and peonies preface the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'écu Monopole, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant wine with tangy acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This is very promising.

Aromas of plums, rich forest floor, warm spices and smoked meats introduce the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'écu Monopole, a medium-bodied, bright and elegant wine that's satiny and melting, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. This is as fine a rendition of the Clos de l'écu as I can remember tasting.

This is a successful vintage for Faiveley's 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'écu Monopole, an expressive wine that offers up a generous bouquet of ripe cherries, raw cocoa and a nicely integrated framing of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny textured, with melting tannins and a fleshy but succulent core of fruit. This will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Ecu from Domaine Faiveley needs some aeration to shake off some light reduction, opening in the glass with pretty notes of black raspberry, rich soil and currant leaf. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, sappy and succulent, with an ample chassis of fine tannins and a deep core of fruit, incipiently lavish but with good focus too. This will need some time in bottle to open up, but it is a promising Beaune 1er cru.
