Faiveley's 1990 Pommard-Les Chaponnieres, from a vineyard that lacks the prestige of such Pommard vineyards as Epenots and Rugiens, is sensational. A sweet, oaky, plummy, jammy nose jumps from the glass. The saturated color suggests intensity. A full-bodied wine of immense richness, a chewy, almost unctuous texture, and a deep, dramatic, even flamboyant finish, this wine is supple enough to be drunk now, and will continue to provide fascinating drinking over the next decade.
