    The 2021 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is also a notable success, wafting from the glass with aromas of rich smoky berries, cherries and forest floor, followed by a full-bodied, ample and layered palate that's textural and multidimensional, combining the typical mid-palate volume of this site with the charm and delicacy of the vintage to compelling effect.

    The 2016 Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru has perfumed strawberry and raspberry scents on the nose, a little predictable maybe after the scintillating Clos Saint-Jacques. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannin, quite masculine and structured, a slight coarseness to the tannin with a fresh finish that will require several years to unfurl. A bit of a curmudgeon at the moment although I am sure it will come good.

    Bruno Clair's 2015 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was showing very well, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of ripe cherries and dried flowers, complemented by sapid, savory nuances of soy and smoked duck. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a deceptively open-knit, succulent profile that I suspect is more a function of the wine's structural finesse than it is any lack of seriousness. This is an elegant, classically balanced Clos de Bèze that may well prove to be a sleeper of the vintage.

    Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a very perfumed bouquet with incense and rose petal scents filtering through the black plum and cranberry fruit. The oak here is well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, touches of black olive and Japanese seaweed, leading to a structured finish with good weight, albeit one that needs time. This is a classy close-up de Bèze from Bruno Clair. Tasted September 2017.

    Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru from Bruno Clair has a vivacious bouquet with Morello cherry and raspberry, a slightly chocolaty scent deriving from new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, dark berry fruit that is a little dominated by the wood regime at the moment. It will probably pull through but needs to develop greater substance on the finish to warrant a higher score. Tasted September 2016.
