Voge can make superb Cornas and his 1991 regular cuvee (there are often old vine and new oak cuvees as well) is a rich, earthy, black-raspberry-scented wine with full body, admirable depth and ripeness, and a long, spicy finish. Although rustic, it is loaded with character, ripe fruit, fine richness, and moderate tannin, this is a Cornas for drinking over the next 7-8 years. Anyone lucky enough to run across Voge's 1991 Cornas-Vieilles Vignes should not hesitate to try it; it should be spectacular. The only bottle I had an opportunity to taste (quantities are extremely limited) was badly corked. Importer: New Castle Imports, Myrtle Beach, SC.

A gloriously opulent 1985 Cornas, this deep-colored, full-bodied wine is loaded with Asian spices and jammy, lush fruit. Fully mature, this smooth-as-silk Cornas (a rarity) will continue to offer sumptuous drinking for another 5-6 years. Anticipated maturity: now-2002. Last tasted 11/95.

A big, hickory-scented, smoky, bacon fat, ripe, plummy bouquet seems to gush from a glass of this dark garnet-colored Cornas. More open and advanced than other wines from this vintage, Voge's Cornas shows plenty of ripe fruit, full body, excellent concentration, and another decade of cellaring potential. It is especially well balanced for a 1983. Anticipated maturity: now-2005. Last tasted 11/95.

A little diffuse and flabby with soft, one-dimensional flavors, the 1982 is adequate but not the best example of Voge's winemaking talents. Drink up. Last tasted 9/91.

Still a deep, opaque garnet/purple color, this wine possesses rich, smoky, bacon fat aromas, an opulent, chewy mid-palate, and layers of flavor. Full-bodied, velvety, intense, and extremely long, this is a hedonistic, decadently rich Cornas that has aged superbly. A brilliant wine! Last tasted 11/95.
