Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Canary Hill Vineyard is scented of blackberry preserves, earth, Earl Grey tea leaves and citrus, plus wafts of floral perfume. The palate is ultra perfumed and juicy, with a silky, seamless feel in the mouth and a long, layered finish.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Canary Hill Vineyard comes from Pommard clone vines planted in the mid-1980s. It was made with 49% whole clusters and aged 17 months in 17% new French oak. It has a medium ruby color and a gorgeous nose that's broody and mineral driven, with aromas of aniseed, cracked pepper, jamon di iberico, dried flowers and crushed blackberries. The palate is medium-bodied, silky, incredibly perfumed and expansive, finishing very layered. 144 cases were made.

Christom's winemaker, Steve Doerer, the former winemaker at Calera, is now strutting his stuff in Oregon and these are highly promising debut releases from this new Oregon operation. While Christom has planted their own vineyard, the 1992 releases are from purchased fruit. The 1992 Pinot Noir-Canary Hill reveals a complex bouquet of smoke, ripe black-cherries, and herbs, medium ruby color, a sweet, round, supple texture, and attractive flavors that exhibit fine depth, as well as soft acid and tannin. The finish is long and smooth. Drink this elegant, rich Pinot Noir over the next 4-5 years.
