This is a waxy, rather soft rendition of Sauvignon Blanc, and the pretty fruit flavors mix grapefruit, citrus and pineapple. There is very little suggestion of Sauvignon Blanc’s herbal or grassy side; the grapes seem to have been ripened past that point, though not all the way to California-style, tropical fruit flavors. Crafted to showcase, not hide, the grape’s lightly grassy herbaceousness, this bracing Sauvignon Blanc manages the clever trick of being both restrained and penetrating. The complex mix of grapefruit, lemon, lime and pineapple fruit flavors is set against racy acids and that hint of grassiness. A small portion of the final blend was aged in oak, adding complexity and softening the edges. You won’t find a better match for goat and sheep cheeses. 5,000 cases produced.——P.G.(11/15/2006)—— 88
