The medium to full-bodied 1998 Corton-Charlemagne reveals lactic, butter, and mocha scents. Louis Trebuchet, like many of his Burgundian brethren, feels compelled to place his Corton-Charlemagne last in tastings because, as he says, "it is so stylistically different it does not fit elsewhere." Revealing ripe tropical fruits and minerals, it possesses an intensely explosive, rich, and full-bodied character filled with sweet peaches, pears, red currants, and spicy oak. As with the Batard, the Corton-Charlemagne has benefitted from the vintage's precision, focus, and balance-giving acidity.
