There’s much more to the 2012 Oda Blanc, which is produced with Chardonnay and Macabeo grapes fermented and aged in contact with the lees and with battonage in new American and French oak barrels. The fruit is above the oak aromas and manages to come through as fresh and spicy, with notes of apples, quince, roasted nuts and aniseed and a creamy palate, with good balance and freshness. The 2009 Oda Blanc is composed of 56% Chardonnay and 44% Macabeo aged in new French and American oak barrels for 8 months with occasional batonnage. It gives up a toasty nose from the oak, floral, and earthy mineral aromas, and melon. The 2008 Oda Blanc is a blend of 51% Chardonnay and 49% Macabeo aged for 8 months in new French and American oak with periodic batonnage. Toasty, buttered popcorn aromas lead to a round, smooth-textured, wine with plenty of melon and baking spice notes buttressed by lively acidity. The oak is well integrated while contributing to the wine’s plush mouth-feel. A bit more concentration would have led to an outstanding rating. Drink this tasty bland over the next 3-4 years.
