The 2017 Viognier has a lovely nose of white pepper, honeycomb, honeysuckle and quince paste with a core of apple pie, toast, hay and musk. It's medium-bodied and wonderfully intense in the mouth with great freshness and a long, layered finish. 850 cases produced.

The 2016 Viognier aged on the lees for 14 months in 60% neutral oak, 30% concrete vats and 10% stainless steel. It has delicate aromas on the nose: baker's yeast, sliced red pear, fresh apples and notes of hazelnuts, dried hay, saline and honeysuckle coming through with time. Medium-bodied, it has fresh, savory-laced flavors with juicy acidity and a long, textured finish. 1,225 cases produced.

A beautiful expression of the variety from California, the 2013 Viognier comes from the Gimelli Vineyard located in San Benito County. It saw full malolactic fermentation and was aged in neutral oak. Pretty, perfumed and clean, with notes of honeyed peach, orange blossom and white flowers, this medium-bodied, rounded, supple Viognier stays lively and fresh on the palate while still showing the texture and richness that the variety's known for. Drink it anytime over the coming 1-2 years.

Looking at the two Viogniers, the 2012 Viognier Central Coast is another rocking value to not be missed. Apricot, marmalade, orange blossom and flower oil-like aromas and flavors all flow nicely to a medium-bodied, richly textured white that’s geared for enjoying over the coming year. These latest releases from Calera are rock-solid across the board, and looking at the 2011 Pinot Noirs specifically, they show the best of the cooler vintage and are gorgeous wines. Starting with the two Chardonnays, these are both outstanding whites that represent serious value. The 2011 Viognier Mt. Harlan covers every inch of the palate with layers of rich, sensual fruit. The Mt. Harlan Viognier is less overt in its aromas and flavors than the Central Coast Viognier. It is a wine that impresses most for its sublime texture and vibrant, focused fruit. Hints of citrus, white flowers and crushed rocks are woven into the generous, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017. Calera is clearly not in Napa Valley, but these current and upcoming releases are deserving of serious attention, hence their inclusion here.Tel.
