    Pale to medium ruby in the glass, the 2017 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard, aged 17 months in 30% new French oak, has a very pretty nose of prosciutto, pepper, autumn leaves, rooibos tea leaves, dust and graphite with wild blackberries and earthy notions in the undercurrent. The palate is light to medium-bodied, intense and layered with finely grained tannins and juicy freshness, finishing layered. 549 cases produced.

    Aged 17 months in 30% new French oak, the 2016 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard is pale to medium ruby in the glass. The nose gives up dried rose petals, orange peel, warm wild blackberries, cured meats and a peppery touch with notes of potpourri, earth and amaro. Light to medium-bodied, it offers nuanced fruit and a sturdy, grainy frame, finishing long, lifted and juicy. 375 cases produced.

    Calera's 2013 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard is a beauty, and one of the standout vintages of this cuvee. Harvested on October 8th and 9th, with a scant 1.14 tons per acre, and aged 17 months in 30% French oak, its light ruby color is followed by a sweet, perfumed bouquet of sassafras, mint, sweet cherries and dried flowers. This cooler site always imparts a lively, sappy, almost green note, but it's always balanced by a solid core of fruit. Medium-bodied, supple, elegant and silky, it has tons of charm, no hard edges and should evolve nicely on its overall balance.

    From a cooler site, the 2012 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard lacks the weight and depth of some of the other releases, yet has beautifully perfumed and complex notes of sassafras, kirsch, sweet black cherry, pepper and pine resin on the nose. These give way to a medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant Pinot Noir that has no hard edges, sweet fruit and a forward, yet still focused and balanced profile on the palate. Aged 16 months in roughly 30% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it should evolve gracefully through 2022.

    From a cool site, the 2011 Pinot Noir Reed offers a subtle, restrained personality with subtle sassafras, resinous herbs, mint, licorice and sweet kirsch aromas and flavors to go with a medium bodied, lightly textured, and yet classy palate feel. It’s not a heavyweight, yet offers solid complexity and an interesting, lively profile. It should be enjoyed over the coming 4-6 years. These latest releases from Calera are rock-solid across the board, and looking at the 2011 Pinot Noirs specifically, they show the best of the cooler vintage and are gorgeous wines. Starting with the two Chardonnays, these are both outstanding whites that represent serious value.
