The 2016 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard is another bruiser of a wine from Boedecker, with a nose of currant, toasted coconut, cinnamon stick, earth and tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate has a somewhat oily texture and a chewy frame, finishing with just enough freshness. 200 cases produced.

Pale to medium ruby with a garnet tinge, the 2015 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard is scented of warm cranberries, red cherries and strawberry preserves with notes of white pepper, toasted coconut and a faint mineral nuance. Light to medium-bodied, it gives good concentration of sweet red fruits with spicy and mineral accents in the mouth. It has soft, grainy tannins and lip-smacking acidity, finishing spicy. 220 cases produced.

Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard offers up notes of kirsch, raspberry tart and spice box with hints of mocha, balsamic and violets. Medium to full-bodied, rich and spicy in the mouth, it has a chewy backbone and a long, baked berry-laced finish.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard was matured in 50% new French oak and is limited to 150 cases. It has a light cranberry and strawberry-scented bouquet that does not quite have the vigor of the Athena Pinot Noir. The palate is fleshy on the entry, quite Volnay-like in style, a little chewy, but clean and pure on the finish. Give it another year because I can see the potential.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard errs more toward red fruit than black on the nose, with wild mushroom and woodland notes lending aromatic complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, bay leaf and cold-stewed black tea infusing the red berry fruit with a welcome touch of spice on the harmonious finish. Excellent.
