The Beni di Batasiolo 2016 Barolo shows pretty brightness with an easy, near-term personality. The bouquet is redolent of red cherry, cassis and dried currant. Like most of these samples from the 2016 vintage, I opened my bottles a few hours before tasting for extra aeration. The wine presents a classic Nebbiolo profile with wild berry fruit, camphor ash and pretty highlights of cured tobacco and rust. In the mouth, it offers mild intensity over a mid-weight palate. Some 40,000 cases (with 12 bottles each) were released.

Although you do feel the power of the 2014 Barolo, this vintage ultimately proves less vibrant and lively. There is a dry, evolved quality to the fruit with black plum and prune. This mid-weight Nebbiolo was fermented in stainless steel and aged in large casks made of Slavonian oak. Bottle production is big, with 350,000 units produced.

An elegant, supple style, displaying cherry, currant, licorice, tobacco and tar flavors, matched to a slim profile. Has fine balance and length. Best from 2020 through 2035. 20,800 cases made, 4,300 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barolo Select to Add

Beni di Batasiolo's 2013 Barolo opens to a lean garnet appearance with dark copper highlights. This wine delivers good depth and dimension with a firm sense of structure at the back. That backbone supports a pretty flavor profile that includes wild berry, cola, licorice and grilled rosemary. This is a steady and clean Barolo from a very happy vintage. Production is very large with 350,000 bottles made.

From a warm vintage, the 2012 Barolo shows an upfront, food-friendly and accessible personality. You could pair this wine with grilled lamb with a side of spicy mint sauce. The bouquet offers a sure showing of ripe cherry fruit backed by savory spice.
