The 2010 Malagousia is delicate in the mid-palate, but aromatically intense, floral and fragrant, with some grassy notes. It is fun just to smell, but it tastes great, too. If it is a little light, it is bursting with fresh flavors, seeming invigorating and delicious. It is a very nice effort, for early consumption. It should be perfect this summer. The alcohol is only 13% but it did seem a bit noticeable at times. There were 5,000 bottles made. Drink now-2012. Avantis is a family run boutique that makes small production wines. The first wine debuted in 1994. The 2009 MALAGOUSIA is light and bright, with nice and charming flavors on the finish, a little lemon-lime and a little dried bay leaf. Young and fresh at the moment, this drinks nicely. There is not a lot of intensity here, and it does flatten out a bit with time, seemingly lacking a little “lift,” but it drinks very nicely and has tons of charm at the moment. The 2008 MALAGOUSIA is a bit grassy and pungent, but relatively restrained compared to some I’ve tried. Crisp, but with decent mid-palate depth—i.e., this isn’t a wine that is all about acidity with no fruit--and some mouth watering moments on the finish, it is drinking well now and should be consumed fresh and young.
