The NV Muscat A Petit Grains "Melitis," sold as a 500ml, is a non-fortified (15% alcohol), non-vintage wine (that last as a result of appellation rules). It was in fact from the 2007 vintage, I'm told, for this bottle, although nothing I or the importer could find on the packaging would let a consumer know. This is the current release - just ask when it came in. Slightly unctuous on the finish, it is quite well balanced in general, with a largely focused feel. It reminded me a little of a late harvest Chenin Blanc. As it warmed up, it seemed lighter and thinner, but at that point there was also a delectable, subtle spiciness on the finish, with some brightness, making it a pleasure to drink. It is always an interesting point as to how well these age; be conservative until you know how you like them, which is the real issue. It's great now. It drank beautifully the next day, too, the alcohol a bit more noticeable at first, but the wine becoming better and more interesting, richer and more lingering, as it warmed a bit. It made a believer out of me at that point. It was ultimately much better on Day 2. There were 3,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2020. Avantis is a family run boutique that makes small production wines. The first wine debuted in 1994.
