The 2009 Sauvignon is another nuanced, well-defined white with plenty of regional and varietal character. It shows lovely balance, persistence and depth of flavor. The 2008 Sauvignon is gorgeous in the way it seamlessly melds expressive aromatics with a rich, textured core of white peaches. This is a relatively full-bodied style of Alto Adige Sauvignon, but the wine’s balance is impeccable. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. Abbazia di Novacella is an excellent source for wines from Alto Adige loaded with varietal character. The entry-level whites (in the Alsatian-style bottles) are aged in steel. The 2007 Sauvignon is made in a style that emphasizes the variety’s greener qualities. This crisp, focused white is well-made but is not one of the more distinctive wines in the line-up. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2009. Abbazia di Novacella is located in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful corners of Italy. The estate makes a wide range of wines across different levels of quality, as is the custom in these parts. The single-variety wines (in the Alsatian-style bottles) are aged in steel and made in a fresh style. The high-end Praepositus wines offer greater complexity and structure.
