The 2010 “Special Harvest” is another “different” wine from owner Pedro Araujo – this time, a 100%, late harvest Loureiro that he likened to a passito or vin de paille style. He declassified it to table wine, rather than maintain the appellation, but don’t be scared by that. Coming in at only 8.9% alcohol, it is simply delicious, laced with peach and apricot flavors, rich but with fine acidity. Concentrated but crisp, it has a lovely finish, the acidity making it mouthwatering. This is a big winner. It will be interesting to see how it ages. Tasted only in Portugal, where it runs around 40 euros on the shelf for a 375ml, it may be the most expensive wine in the region; certainly, it is on that short list.
