You really can't go wrong with Italian wines from the sunny and warm 2015 vintage, and this rule holds enthusiastically true for the island of Sardinia. The 2015 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva (with 20,000 bottles released) is a plump and juicy expression with lots of plum, dark cassis and blackberry. But Cannonau is not all black fruit. You get bright tones of red fruit such as strawberry and myrtle berry as well. That fruit is framed by bramble, licorice and light smoke or ash. All those untamed aromas from the land of Spaghetti Western films make for a nice pairing with a Sardinian wild boar and olives dish. This wine ages in 3,000-liter oak casks for one year.
