The 2011 Blanc is a blend of 60% Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Picapoll. It has an intense grassy nose dominated by the Sauvignon Blanc with touches of mint and fennel. The palate is nicely balanced, with strong green apple, spice and sour lemon notes that lead to a fresh, crisp, if short finish. Drink now. I only had the time to visit a single producer in the small D.O. of Pla de Bages, which was Abadal. Although I found much to admire with the whites, I found that the reds excessively oaky, to the detriment of fruit expression and translation of terroir.
