From the Russian River, the opaque purple-colored 2008 Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs possesses massive concentration and depth as well as surprisingly sweet tannins. This is a big, lusty, muscular red that begs for 4-5 years of cellaring. It should drink well for two decades thereafter.
It would be terrific news if one day the winemaker behind all these brilliant wines, Jeff Cohn, gets his own winery and vineyard. He certainly has a knack for putting together super wines, generally from Rhone Ranger varietals, but also Zinfandel.
