Darkly toasty, with roasted vanilla and coffee aromas up front, followed by dense, polished blackberry and black currant fruit. Lots of graphite- and loam-filled grip frames the very long, dark fruit-filled finish. Best from 2011 through 2018. 958 cases made. -JM

Guigal’s long-term aging in new barrels has left a sheen of oak on this wine, but the underlying material is excellent, with mocha and plum notes supporting cedar and vanilla. The finish is long and savory, with a distinct granitic edge to the flavors. Drink now–2020.——J.C.(10/1/2011)—— 91
