The medium to full-bodied 2001 Chardonnay Estate appears somewhat compressed compared to the stainless steel cuvees. With aeration, the muted aromatics reveal scents of honeyed citrus, white flowers, peaches, and apples. While deep the day I tasted it, it was not singing as loudly as its siblings. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. What is especially impressive about all the Melville offerings is their purity and singular personalities. Virtually everyone I talked to in Santa Barbara applauds the meticulous craftsmanship and viticultural skills of proprietor Chad Melville. His talent is obvious in these outstanding efforts.
