Fess Parker’s fairly priced Syrahs are all well worth buying. The same can be said for the 2005 Syrah The Big Easy, an appropriate name for such a voluptuously textured, hedonistic fruit bomb. It reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with loads of blackberry liqueur-like fruit, meat, licorice, and a hint of truffles. Displaying no hard edges, the overall impression is one of glorious opulence. Consume it over the next 7-8 years. This reliable winery still boasts Hollywood icon/hotel developer/top vineyard owner Fess Parker running the show. Moreover, he remains, at age 84, a giant of a man.
