Turley continues to offer two of the blackest, densest, richest Petite Syrahs ever produced in California. Perhaps the greatest Petite Syrah I have ever tasted is Turley's 1996 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard. From a 5-acre parcel of vines, only 6 tons of fruit were harvested. For a Turley offering, this wine possesses a conservative 15% alcohol. This full-bodied monster exhibits remarkable equilibrium, unprecedented purity and richness of fruit for a Petite Syrah, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. It is a compellingly rich, multidimensional wine the likes of which I have never seen from a Petite Syrah. It will undoubtedly need 10-15 years to reveal all of its nuances, but the wait will be worth it. This is an historical effort!
These wines sell out quickly, so readers should try to get their names on the winery's mailing list. Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683.
