A top shelf red, the 2008 Lago di Corbara Polvento Villa Monticelli benefits from the unique breezes and shifting temperatures of the Tiber River Valley by the shores of the beautiful Corbara Lake in southern Umbria. The blend is 80-10-10 Sangiovese Grosso, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (just like Foresco), only this wine is aged two years in oak. Soft cherry and chocolate are the protagonists. Wait a few moments and spice, cigar and smoked bacon appear. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. The Lago di Corbara area of Umbria represents one of the most unique and fascinating microclimates in Italy. Early morning lake fog creates the idea conditions for muffa nobile (botrytis cinerea) that is the secret behind the stunning dessert wines of this estate.
