The 2008 Barbera d’Alba impresses for the sheer integrity and richness of its fruit. In keeping with the style of vintage, some hard edges remain that prevent the 2008 from reaching the level of the sublime 2006 and 2007, but this is nevertheless a strong effort. Menthol, licorice and leather add complexity on the firm finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
This is a lovely set of entry-level wines from Matteo Correggia. Roero remains an excellent source for wines that generally remain under the radar and well priced relative to Barolo and Barbaresco.
