One of the highlights in this portfolio, the 2010 Chardonnay Belle Terre Vineyard packs serious weight. The aromas and flavors are beautifully layered in the glass. Yellow stone fruits, crushed rocks, flowers and mint flow through to the deep, resonant finish. The 2010 could use another 6-12 months in bottle, as it is still tightly wound. The clean, bracing style is nicely shaped by the year. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.
This range from Chateau St. Jean is packed with values. Many of these wines, especially at the entry-level, are made in large enough production to be relatively easy to find. Achieving high quality at this scale is a rare skill. Longtime winemaker Margo Van Staaveren certainly seems to have the magic touch.
