The flagship 2005 Terreus is the product of a single vineyard of old-vine Tempranillo made only in the better vintages. Purple/black in color, it emits a stunning perfume of sandalwood, Asian spices, espresso, blackberry, plum, and licorice. Mouth-filling, concentrated, rich, and surprisingly elegant, it has loads of spicy, savory black fruit, enough structure to blossom for another 5-7 years, and a 45-second finish. Its drinking window will stretch from 2014 to 2030. Located just outside the border of Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Mauro must settle for the more generic DO of Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon.
