The 2000 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigna del Fattore is, predictably, deeper and more intense in tonality than the regular bottling, ampler and more expansive on the nose with more penetrating aromas and a larger, spicier complexity, fuller, richer, and more layered on the palate. Moreover, the wine offers lovely melting tannins to accompany the ripe, sweet plum and currant fruit. Impeccably made and already approachable, it will provide pleasure from 2012 to 2015. Situated, as its name suggests, near the Nottola crossroads, this well run small estate has the misfortune to face the grotesquely ugly, recently-built local hospital, a crime against the environment and the lovely hillside vineyards for which Montepulciano’s administrators deserve an exemplary tar and feathering.
