The 2007 Alion continues the winery’s string of outstanding vintages. It is 100% Tempranillo with malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by aging in new French oak. It offers up an exceptionally fragrant and complex bouquet of wood smoke, pencil lead, exotic spices, incense, lavender, and blackberry. On the palate it displays impressive volume, a smooth texture, layered flavors, and a lengthy, seamless finish. This impressive effort will continue to blossom for several more years and provide much pleasure through 2027. The 2007 Alion has a vibrant nose of dark cherries, violets, wild strawberry and a touch of leather that springs from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins. This Alion is jam-packed full of juicy blackberry, spice, leather and bay leaf that all vie for attention, while the finish is poised and long in the mouth. The 2007 certainly has the substance to age with style. Drink 2015-2025. Alion should need no introduction. Owned by the Alvarez family of Vega Sicilia, the 85 hectare estate included 35 hectares around the winery and 50 hectares with Vega Sicilia itself. Debuting in 1991, the wine is sourced from 20-year-old Tinto Fino that undergoes a modern style of winemaking, using state-of-the-art technology and maturation in Nevers French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months.
