The single-vineyard 1995 Poggio alla Badiola Castello di Fonterutoli offers a deep ruby color, followed by a pretty, low-key, cherry-scented nose with hints of new oak and spice. This round, elegant, subtle, and restrained wine possesses tender tannin and good fruit, but is essentially one-dimensional and straightforward. It should continue to drink well for 3-4 years.
Fonterutoli is one of Tuscany's most reliable producers of Chianti and proprietary red wines—the so-called Vino da Tavolas. Five of six wines performed well in my tastings.
